As the first step for preproduction, we began our extensive research and planning by reading up about what a music video actually entails, it’s origin and history, the different types of music videos, different theories such as Andrew Goowin’s theory of the music video in order to gain a deeper understanding of what the actual purpose of a music video is.  A   music video   is a  short film,  of variable length, that integrates a  song of an album   with imagery that is produced for  promotional or artistic  purposes.  Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a  marketing  device intended to promote the sale of music recordings . There are also cases where songs are used in  tie in  marketing campaigns that allow them to become more than just a song. My partner for this year is Zeeshan Minhas, a fellow classmate and film enthusiast! Together we’ve deliberated on the direction we want our Music Promotional Package to take, and we’re so excited for the future! 

Last year for my very first project, I worked in a team of four. That decision was taken in haste but the outcome was positive as it helped me learn many new things about myself. I also learnt the importance of teamwork, which is why, although I felt perfectly capable doing this project solo, I chose to have one more person alongside me this year.  Furthermore, with experience I learnt not only how to work in a team, but also how to coordinate, assign and manage a team and it really brought out my strong leadership skills. I came to the realisation that along with being an extremely creative person, I am also a bit of a perfectionist. I like to be in control, and I have the natural instincts of a director. Amongst the four set brief options provided to us, I have opted for the   Music Promotional Package.  It consists of:  1) A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music video (major task) 2) An official social media page for the band or artiste(s) (minor task) 3) A digipak for the album’s release (minor task).

 I often used to hear artists and those considered the great voices of our generation repeat the phrase “inspiration can strike at any time, be prepared when it does” and scoff at this. How could something as great and important as inspiration simply just arise so quickly in front of you. To me, inspiration was a persons direct portal to their futures, careers and goals. As a 14 year old girl I wondered when this so called inspiration or desire to be, and do, would strike, until one particular night.
